About this volume

The dust from the Veylan situation had barely settled.

Cale was supposed to be getting back to normal — classes, dinner at home, losing badly at a no-magic combat sim with friends who had no idea who they were actually playing with. Valecis Isle was heating up with the arrival of foreign heirs and political players, and Arclight was doing what it always did, pretending none of it had anything to do with the school.

Then a child went missing and what looked like a kidnapping turned into something else entirely.

Something with too many layers. Too many people. Too much infrastructure for a simple snatch and grab.

Something that had been building on this island for a long time, and had just made the mistake of reaching toward the one place Cale could not walk away from.

He went in. And this time he did not go alone.

Volume Two. Chapters 27 through 53.
